This software is freeware. It may be distributed with

PURPOSE:
As you may guess from the title, the program can
convert TrueColor BMP images to 256-color format
without any loss of quality. (It refuses to convert
a file, if it is not possible.) Since most of those
hentai pictures are actually 16-color ones, the
program usually manages to reduce bit depth even to
4 bits per pixel! This lets you place your anime
collection onto the web in it's original quality
and still reasonable size. One of the very powerful
features of the program is that it can convert many
pictures at a time! So turning 1000 images without
worrying about quality into 4-bit ones can be a
matter of only a few clicks!

USAGE:
First get some cool (or hot ?!? :-) pictures.
If you have it captured from screen, please cut the
surrounding screen contents carefully with zoom to
get rid of any color tones, which do not belong
to the picture. Mspaint is enough. Always save under
24-bit, it is the only INPUT to this program. After
you got the right picture(s), select their directory
as input one. If you select the output directory to
be same as input, the files will be shrunk. Files
with too many colors or unsupported ones will be left
unchanged and a report about errors will be shown.
You can also output it into a different directory.
In that case, unsupported files will NOT occur it it.
When starting a conversion, you may either select
one file and convert it, or have converted all the
files in the list. The list can be changed by file mask.

COOPERATION WITH DIFFERENT PROGRAMS:
PolyView: You can use this to convert a group of files
to GIF format. NOTE: Although PolyView allows you to
convert 24-bit BMPs directly to GIFs, it will be LOSSY
and output files will get HUGE! Always use H-256 to
preprocess the files.
I256: My program for creating 256-color icons. If the
output file will be used in this, please uncheck the
"Take advantage of 4-bit" checkbox, since I256 
doesn't support 4-bit files.
HSB: My program. It supports both TrueColor and 8/4 bit
BMP's, but is a lot faster when working with 8 or 4-bit
ones. So please first use H-256 and THEN HSB! You can
also use HSB on the GIFs produced by PolyView (for example),
but it will take a bit longer to process a GIF file.
(You will probably not notice a delay at all, but if the
image is large and you have a 486 processor, it does matter.)
ANY PICTURE VIEWER: It must display the palette properly,
not rely on universal palette of it's own. (Windows Paint
or Preview support it. IE and Netscape also have no
problems with it. Maybe you could have difficulties with
displaying it under DOS or Win 3.1 applications ???)

SUPPORTED FORMAT:
Currently only BMP 24-bit as input and BMP 8- or 4-bit
as output. Actually, this software's goal is nothing
more and nothing less than this. Just save space
without reduced quality.

WHAT TO AVOID:
Never mess with JPEG around this program. JPEG is lossy
and produces True-color pictures, so it counterworks
this program! JPEGs cannot (logically and because of
format) be used as an input. Also, converting output
to JPEG would totally purge all benefits got with
this program.

DO I NEED THIS PROGRAM ANYWAY ???
Everybody can take advantage of this software, unless
he or she possesses 1000 TB hard drive space and a T3
or better internet connection! Additionally, the pro's
will appraise the file quality, if they would explore
your website's images.
